PRINCETON, W.Va. – WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital is set to host an upcoming health fair at the Mercer Mall.

The event is happening Oct. 5 from 9 am to 3 pm and will offer a number of free screenings. Those include a cardiac risk assessment, depression screenings, breast exams and hernia screenings.

Dr. Raymond Herron says the event would be especially useful for someone who has had issues seeing a primary care physician or surgeon involving health issues.

Dr. Herron says he’ll be one of two doctors performing hernia screenings at the fair and tells WVVA hernias occur in areas like your abdomen or groin which can cause discomfort and lead to a number of issues.

“It can lead all the way up to organs protruding through these hernias. The main concern is it would be causing strangulation and need for an emergency surgery,” said Dr. Herron. “Typically if hernias are caught, we want to fix them so they don’t cause bigger issues down the road.”

The event will also feature information on getting health insurance, fall prevention and even low cost blood screenings.
