A fed-up chip shop owner has ranked the worst types of customers that he sees on a daily basis.

Fish and chips are a staple in the UK, but the cost-of-living crisis has meant that even the classic dish is costing consumers more. UK residents may have noticed the steady increase – where fish and chips averaged at £6.48 in July 2019, they can cost as much as £9.88 today, according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

This constitutes a staggering 52 percent rise, making fish and chips the most inflated takeaway, with the cost of a kebab up 44 percent and pizza 30 percent.

Business owners say they had no choice but to raise prices, pointing to high utility bills, tariffs on seafood imports and bad weather – which resulted in poor potato harvests and raised prices.

Amid the chaos, one chip shop owner in the southeast has worked relentless 50-hour weeks serving customers and reports booming business. Interestingly, he says that difficult customers are the biggest nuisance he faces rather than financial challenges, reports the Mirror.

The unnamed chip slinger has shared the six worst types of customers that come to his shop.

1. The vinegar hog

There is nothing he hates more than a customer who drowns their chips in vinegar. If customers are placing an order to take home, he said he disliked seeing them drench their chips in his vinegar. “I sell bottles of vinegar for just 95p, they don’t cost the earth,” he told the Sun.

2. The babysitter

The unnamed chippy railed against customers who plop their toddlers on the takeaway counter.

He described it as “infuriating and unhygienic” must sanitise the area after the customer removes their child, which backs up the queue even longer.

3. The bag skimper

People who forgo bags despite a hefty order were another headache for the business owner. He couldn’t understand why someone who would drop £50 on a takeaway order would neglect to add 10p to the order.

4. The late-night chancer

People who came in as the shop was closing looking for freebies or meals after the fryers were turned off were some of his least favourites.

5. Pet feeders

People who order sausages only to tell him the food is for their pet were another source of ire for the business owner who complained he was busy enough keeping people fed, let alone their pets.

6. Change grabbers

The chippy owner despised people who paid with large bills for a £1.50 cone of chip. He said: “Banks charge small business owners like me for change,” and suspected that people were just doing it to get change for the bus or taxi.
