After looking at factors like tempo, key, and the influence of lyrics over our arousal and physiological responses, Reboot Online has whittled it down to 10 songs.

And post brat summer, it’s no surprise that rolling in at number 10 (not quite number one) is Charli XCX’s Von Dutch from her chart-topping album, with its ‘lively rhythm’ and ‘vibrant and engaging sound’.

And you probably wouldn’t go amiss slipping in a couple of other Charli hits alongside it like Guess and 360 for good measure.

Rihanna

Following hot on its heels is rock duo Black Pistol Fire’s 2017 song Speak of the Devil, a slower, more heavy-hitting, song with lyrics like ‘Just a bit of love keep you warm / Now we spoke tongue to tongue / Still you slowly watch me drown’.

Rihanna’s 2016 tune Kiss It Better rolls in at number eight and the title could even act as a suggestion for those looking to ramp up the action.

‘Listening to music can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, releasing calming hormones like serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin.

‘This relaxed state increases blood flow and sensitivity, enhancing intimacy,’ multi-award winning sex and relationship coach Gemma Nice explained about why it makes something in our brain tick.

Sasha Lopez’s All My People, Usher’s Bad Girl, David Banner’s Play, and Celine Dion’s Set My Heart On Fire bulk up the middle of our countdown, coming in strong with lyrics about touching ourselves, each other, and places down there.

‘Music genres, especially those that are very slow and heavily reliant upon bass lines, will influence breath stoppages and heart rates to simulate what occurs naturally in the human body during sexual arousal,’ Marriage.com relationship expert Sylvia Smith said about the slower songs thrown into the mix.

Coming in third place is Lady, Touch Yourself from Nikki Idol packed with sultry lyrics to get the pulse racing with its themes of ‘themes of physical intimacy and personal interaction, enhancing its arousal-boosting properties.’
