Dramedy We Might Regret This follows tetraplegic artist Freya (Kyla Harris) and straight-laced lawyer Abe’s (Darren Boyd) whirlwind romance as it tackles the realities of dating with a disability, with personal assistants ever-present during their intimate moments.

The show also focuses on important issues such as mental health, loss of a child and abandonment.

After finding her first PA inappropriate and infantilising, Freya hires her old friend, drifter Jo (Elena Saurel), to help her – and invites her to move in.

Abe and Jo clash at times and the actors portray this strained relationship wonderfully well.

The other prominent members of the cast are the brilliant Sally Phillips, playing the role of Abe’s soon-to-be ex wife Jane and Edward Bluemel as their son Levi .

The family are grieving their oldest son Sam who died unexpectedly 15 years earlier, leading Jane to leave her husband and young son.

Bluemel was excellent as Marcus in A Discovery of Witches and here, he shows his amazing range as a troubled and lost 20-something looking for purpose and wanting to be treated like an adult.

Harris showcases the issues people face day-to-day as full-time wheelchair users, from others blocking the pavement, being talked down to and overly praised, to the lack of disabled bathrooms, public transport issues and accommodation problems.

Harris also co-created the show with Lee Getty and it’s their first real stab at mainstream television – and boy, do they deliver.

It is not just a show about living with disabilities in a new city, it’s about family, whichever form it takes.

There’s humour, relatability, sadness and tonnes of attitude in the form of Jo , who isn’t afraid to say and do whatever she feels, including kissing the then-unknown Levi in a bathroom after asking him what his problems are.

I binge-watched this series in a few hours, so I do hope it gets a second season.

Everything was left on a cliffhanger, so I want some answers as to what happens next.

You won’t regret giving this cracking comedy a chance.
