Emergency services descended on Kilmarnock town centre late last night to deal with a major incident.
Police units, ambulances teams and fire crews took over a car park on Sturrock Street and remained at the scene for several hours.
The exact nature of the incident is not yet known but appeared to centre around some form of rescue mission for a casualty.
Specialist teams used ladders and expert equipment to gain access to the roof above the shops on King Street.
The emergency services were on the scene until well after midnight.
Around six police vehicles, three Scottish Ambulance Service motors – including two incident response units – and five fire engines, which also included a specialist team were all scrambled to the scene.
Mercy crews complete with helmets and what appeared to be climbing equipment were also spotted.
Rescue workers focused their efforts above the shops on King Street with the majority of attention being paid to roof space above the former Citizens Advice unit, TUI shop, Card Factory and the O2 store.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue height vehicle complete with a hydraulic ladder and platform eventually arrived at the car park – based between M&S and the former BHS building.
One medic was also vaulted to the roof along with a stretcher.
Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue and the Scottish Ambulance Service have all been contacted for comment.
