(CNN) – Former President Jimmy Carter is about to make history.

Carter turns 100 years old on Tuesday, becoming the first president in U.S. history to hit the centennial mark.

And a number of events to celebrate are in the works.

That includes a flyover of military jets over his hometown of Plains, Georgia, where a naturalization ceremony and concert will also be held.

According to family members, Carter’s birthday wish is to vote in the presidential election.

The former president entered hospice care in February 2023 after a series of hospital stays.

He is a survivor of metastatic brain cancer and liver cancer and underwent brain surgery after a fall in 2019.
