Perthshire’s renowned five-star Gleneagles Hotel has won an outstanding accolade in world class luxury guide.

MICHELIN, famed for its restaurant guide, has now launched its first rankings for hotels in the UK and Ireland.

Each hotel featured is ranked by keys.

The Auchterarder hotel scooped top marks with three keys

The honour comes as the hotel, which opened in 1924, celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Gleneagles shares the three key distinction with the likes of Ardare Manor in Ireland and The Connaught and The Savoy in London.

It is the only establishment in Scotland to receive three keys.

Its Edinburgh outpost Gleneagles Townhouse in St Andrew Square received one key.

Gleneagles managing director Conor O’Leary said: “We were thrilled to be recognised as a leader in hospitality on this global platform.

“To achieve three Michelin Keys is an incredible honour, especially at such a pivotal moment for Gleneagles as we celebrate our Centenary year. “It really is a fantastic recognition for the team and demonstrates their unwavering commitment and enthusiasm, day-in, day-out.”

In total, the 2024 MICHELIN Guide hotel selection for Great Britain and Ireland includes 14 Three Key hotels, 37 Two Key hotels and 72 One Key hotels.

The MICHELIN Guide now includes over 5,000 hotels across the world, each vetted by hotel experts and judged excellent in five categories: architecture and interior design; quality and consistency of service; overall personality and character; value for the price; and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting.

Three Michelin keys is ranked extraordinary.

The Michelin Guide states: ‘It’s all about astonishment and indulgence here – this is the ultimate in comfort and service, style and elegance. It is one of the world’s most remarkable and extraordinary hotels and a destination in itself for that trip of a lifetime. All the elements of truly great hospitality are here to ensure any stay will live long in the memory and hearts of travellers.’
