A man has died after a horror road smash which saw his vehicle crashing into a concrete barrier and going over a bridge, landing on the busy motorway below.

A police probe is now underway into the death of the driver, who was in his 50s but has not yet been named, following the incident yesterday, Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

The crash took place on the M3 motorway, a 59-mile stretch of road south of London which links Sunbury-on-Thames, in Surrey, with Eastleigh, Hampshire.

Surrey Live reports officers were called to the M3 at around 5.25pm yesterday evening following a single vehicle collision on the southbound carriageway near J4.

The vehicle initially left the A325 carriageway around the Ravenswood Roundabout, in Camberley, where it hit a concrete barrier and went over the bridge, landing on the southbound carriageway of the M3 below.

South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended but, despite the best efforts of paramedics, the driver of the vehicle, a man in his 50s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Both the slip road of the A325 and the southbound carriageway of the M3 were closed for around eight hours to allow Surrey Police to carry out an initial investigation. Those roads have now fully reopened.

The force is now appealing for witnesses. Surrey Police said: “We are now appealing for any information that may assist our investigation. We would particularly like to trace the movements of a black BMW I3 prior to the collision.

“If you were in the area between 5.20pm and 5.25pm yesterday evening and witnessed the collision, or you have CCTV, dash cam or helmet cam footage that might have captured any part of this incident, please get in touch quoting PR/45240112326.”
