Broxburn Athletic boss Stevie Pittman has revealed star striker Errol Douglas is staying at Albyn Park after they rejected a bid from League Two side Stirling Albion on Monday.
The Brox hitman netted a hat-trick in Friday night’s live Scottish Cup TV tie with Dalkeith, which Pittman’s men won 4-0 to set up a second round tie away to Auchinleck Talbot later this month.
Douglas has caught the eye with his impressive goal-haul, which includes nine strikes in the Lowland League in 11 games, off the back of firing the club to the East of Scotland League title and promotion last season.
But he has opted to remain with the West Lothian outfit and Pittman is delighted. He said: “There has been teams in for Erroll and putting offers in, but he is happy where he is just now.
“Stirling Albion came in for him on Monday, but he is happy where he is. I think they have been looking at him for a while because he scored so many goals last season and he has started this season really well.
“It is good for us that he’s staying. Credit to him and the club as well. We want him to stay and they’re not taking any offers for him.
“The big man doesn’t want to go. I think there is a lot of travelling in League Two and, having weighed up his options, he is happy where he is and we are delighted with that. It shows what a good group of boys we have, they stick together.
“Erroll just keeps on scoring. He has done well to get his hat-trick on Friday but the boys that are putting the balls in for him have been excellent as well.
“He is there to finish them and he’s having a good season, but he has to get the service to do well. Everybody is doing their bit.”
In Friday’s tie, which was shown live on BBC Scotland, Douglas opened the scoring after 12 minutes before Kyle Bell added a second soon after the interval. Douglas completed his treble with two strikes in stoppage time.
On the display, Pittman added: “It was good. I think in the first half Dalkeith played well and kept us at bay. In the end, you’ve got to be happy to get through, especially on the TV. We were happy with our performance overall. We got through and that is the most important thing.”
On Tuesday night Broxburn drew 1-1 with Lowland leaders Caledonian Braves, with Nick Locke on target. They now host East Stirling on Saturday.
Pittman said: “For me the East Stirling game is a six-pointer. We have got to win games against teams down there in the table so we don’t claw anything back on us. You’ve got to win the games against the teams below you to keep you comfortable.
“With the good start we’ve had, the boys keep working hard and doing their jobs. We are quite happy with where we are at the moment, but every game in this league is difficult. We will need to be at it to beat East Stirling.”
