A teenager was arrested after running onto the grounds of Shortlees Primary School in Kilmarnock.

Police attempted to stop the 17-year-old man near the school on Earlston Avenue yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, October 2) just before 3pm in relation to a robbery.

However, the teenager ran off and was spotted in the grounds of Shortlees Primary before being apprehended a short distance away on Shortlees Crescent.

Despite speculation on social media, it is understood that the teen did not have a knife in his possession.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.55pm on Wednesday, October 2, officers attempted to stop a man in Earlston Avenue, Kilmarnock, in connection with an investigation into a robbery.

“The male made off however was traced a short time later in Shortlees Crescent.

“A 17-year-old male was subsequently arrested in connection with the robbery and enquiries are ongoing.”

East Ayrshire Council were contacted for comment.
