Katy Perry has unveiled the secrets behind her impressive weight loss of ’20lbs’, according to reports. The 39-year-old singer, who recently released her new album ‘143’, has given a nod to a classic breakfast food – and it’s not porridge or pancakes.

Taking to Instagram, she shared that hard boiled eggs are her choice, humorously demonstrating by cracking one on her forehead. “I eat a lot of hard boiled eggs ’cause they’re a great source of protein,” she said.

“But I don’t crack them on this [plate] ’cause it takes too much time.” Yet, Perry’s dietary regimen extends beyond eggs.

According to Hello!, she follows in the footsteps of her fitness-conscious partner, Orlando Bloom, opting for ‘clean’ foods such as chicken, fish, nuts, and seeds.

In a January interview with Women’s Health, she also listed apple cider vinegar, plenty of water, and celery juice as parts of her health routine. “That is the best way to start, is just to drink water,” she told the publication.

“I know it’s such a cliché, but I think a lot of us go straight to the coffee without just drinking a glass of water.” But what do the experts think?

Nutritionist Helen Bell from UK Care Guide weighed in on Perry’s choices to The Mirror. She said her snack and meal selections are indeed sensible and could be effective for those looking to lose weight.

Katy’s choice of eggs for breakfast was praised by the nutritionist, who explained: “In my experience, consuming eggs as a snack can actually be quite beneficial for weight loss. Eggs are high in protein, which helps to increase satiety and keep you feeling fuller for longer.

“This can reduce the overall calorie intake throughout the day. But, it’s important to watch portion sizes and prepare them in a healthy way, like boiling or poaching, to avoid adding unnecessary fats.”

Much like chicken, fish, nuts and seeds, eggs can also be referred to as a ‘clean food’. This title generally encompasses healthy products that aren’t processed, meaning they haven’t faced any chemical treatment.

Recent research from the US-based Cleveland Clinic found that consuming processed meat is among the main drivers of young-onset colorectal cancer. So, ‘cleaner’ alternatives are not only beneficial for weight loss but long-term health too.

Helen continued: “Eating ‘clean foods’ such as chicken, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds can, in my experience, be incredibly beneficial for weight loss. These foods are typically lower in calories and higher in essential nutrients compared to processed foods. They provide fibre, which aids in digestion and helps maintain a feeling of fullness.

“In my experience, clients who switch to a diet rich in these foods often find it easier to manage their weight because they are consuming more nutrient-dense calories that support overall health and metabolism.”

Despite this, Helen stressed that one of Katy’s methods can have ‘mixed results’. This especially includes drinking apple cider vinegar and celery juice as part of a daily routine.

“Apple cider vinegar has been linked to improved digestion and may help regulate blood sugar levels, which can potentially aid weight loss,” she explained. “Celery juice is low in calories and can be hydrating, but it doesn’t provide significant nutrients compared to whole vegetables.

“In my experience, the psychological aspect of starting the day with a ‘detox’ drink can sometimes encourage individuals to make healthier choices throughout the day. However, there’s no magic drink for weight loss. For me, it’s the overall diet and lifestyle that make the difference.”
