Many people often think that garments sullied by oil marks are beyond rescue.

However, one social media star has divulged her nifty trick for banishing stubborn oil blots using nothing but an everyday pantry staple.

Lese Mmolotsi, who goes by the Instagram handle @homewithlese, imparts her home and cleaning tips to her 442,000 followers. And her most recent revelation on tackling oil smears has been met with acclaim, amassing in excess of 212,000 likes.

Kicking off her informative clip, Lese deliberately pour oil over her sweatpants to set the stage. Overlay text in the video states: “Got oil stains on your clothes? Here’s how to remove it.”

Her initial directive is to carefully dab away any surplus oil with paper or kitchen towels, taking care not to smear it further across the fabric. The subsequent phase involves covering the blot with baking powder a bargain at just £1.50 to soak up the remaining grease.

Lese advises a waiting time of 15-30 minutes, following which you should introduce a few droplets of a potent dishwashing liquid for step three.

Continuing, the fourth measure requires tenderly scouring the affected patch with a toothbrush, and then as the fifth move, laundering it under hot water. The final act is to heave the item into the washing machine for a thorough cleanse.

Capping off her demonstration with flair, Lese exclaims: “Say goodbye to oil stain and hello to fresh clean clothes,” all the while flaunting her now pristine tracksuit bottoms.

In her post-caption wrap-up, she states: “How to remove oil stains from clothes (even old ones!)

“Got a pesky oil stain on your favourite clothes? Dont worry! Here is an easy, step by step hack to banish those stubborn stains using ingredients you already have at home.

“What’s needed – baking soda ,dish soap and hot water! Pro tip let the baking soda absorb the oil before scrubbing. If the oil stain is old then repeat this method again and again.”

The life hack was met with enthusiasm from some, as one person gushed: “Omg Lese I so needed to know this. I have a couple of oil stains on a jumper.” Meanwhile, another said: “So handy to know I’ll be saving this!”

A third contributor expressed surprise, saying: “You mean to tell me it’s been that’s easy this whole time? “.

Mwanwhile, others brought their own tricks to the table, as someone advised: “The best method I’ve found is putting dawn dish soap on the oil stain and leaving it on for over 24hrs, the oil will breakdown and then throw it in the wash! Works wonders.”

Someone else said: “I use castor oil on oil stains and let it sit for an hour then wash it. Def works.” While a third chimed in: “Even easier solution: Dishwash liquid. Rub it on and let sit for a few mins before putting it the washer.”
