Dedicated health and social care workers from across NHS Lanarkshire were honoured at a special ceremony.
The annual staff awards recognises the hard work and compassion of remarkable individuals and teams who make a real difference to the lives of others.
Professor Jann Gardner, the health board’s chief executive, said: “The awards ceremony was about the staff and volunteers at the heart of NHS Lanarkshire, and their dedication, compassion, and expertise.
“This year we had an incredible 236 nominations across a range of categories and, after incredibly difficult decisions by the judging panel, we celebrated the finalists and winners at South Lanarkshire Council headquarters.
“Everyone who was nominated should be tremendously proud for their unwavering commitment to patient care. I want to recognise the outstanding service that is provided across Lanarkshire every day.”
The categories and winners of this year’s awards are:
Care and Compassion Award – Dr Daniel McGowan for his extraordinary care and compassion.
Innovation Award – urogynaecology team, whose work is changing lives.
Collaboration Award – psychiatric liaison nursing team who are setting new standards for patient care.
Global Citizenship Award – Segun Komolafe, whose work is transforming lives across continents.
Chair Award – Karen Logan for her outstanding dedication to patient care.
Chief Executive Award – the rapid cancer diagnostic Service, whose contributions have truly revolutionised cancer care in Lanarkshire.
Special Recognition Award – the Flow Navigation Centre +Plus for their transformative work on patient pathways.
Special Recognition Award – the Briar Centre for their innovative brain injury rehabilitation work.
William Cullen Prize – Dr Barry Vallance was awarded the prize posthumously for his outstanding contributions to cardiac care.
NHS Lanarkshire’s chairman, Martin Hill, added: “It truly was a pleasure to attend last night’s staff awards which celebrated the exceptional contributions of our NHS Lanarkshire staff.
“These awards are incredibly important as they recognise the dedication, hard work, and passion that our staff bring to their roles every single day.
“I had the honour to present the 2024 Chair Award, a special accolade that I personally choose, but it was not an easy task as the finalists were all worthy winners.
“The staff awards take months of planning and I would like to take the opportunity to thank the staff who have worked behind the scenes to make the day go smoothly.
“And, lastly, a big thank you to everyone for being part of the celebration, and huge congratulations to all our winners and finalists.”
