Prince William is reportedly concerned about the whereabouts of jewels that once belonged to his late mother, Princess Diana, which were incorporated into Meghan Markle’s engagement ring.
Meghan, 42, was presented with an engagement ring by Prince Harry, now 40, in 2017, featuring two diamonds from Diana’s personal collection.
At the time, Harry revealed that the two diamonds flanked a central stone from Botswana on a plain gold band. However, it’s believed that the ring underwent a subtle redesign less than two years later, with a slimmer band being introduced as part of an “update”.
The Duchess of Sussex was first spotted wearing the revamped ring at the Trooping the Colour event in 2019, the Express reports.
However, this year has seen Meghan attend several events sans the iconic ring, including a gala in May, where it was said to be “being fixed”.
Even more notably, she was without the ring at the Invictus Games this year, despite being there with her husband. A source speaking to New Idea magazine claimed that Prince William, 42, is allegedly anxious about the fate of his mother’s precious stones.
This concern arises amidst ongoing speculation of a strained relationship between William and his brother Prince Harry, alongside Meghan. The couple has made a series of comments about the Royal Family, most notably in their 2021 Netflix docuseries which was followed by the duke’s tell-all memoir Spare just weeks later.
Speculation is rife over the absence of Meghan’s engagement ring at an event in Germany, with the Duchess usually seen wearing the piece since her marriage to Prince Harry. Royal insiders are reportedly puzzled and concerned, noting that the ring has “vanished” and it’s unusual for Meghan not to be “proudly” wearing it.
An insider claimed: “And it’s safe to say it has set off alarm bells at the Palace. [Prince William’s] putting the word out through mutual friends that he wants to know what’s going on. Not knowing where they are is disturbing for William.”
The source also mentioned Prince William’s deep connection to his mother’s legacy, emphasising how her jewellery is an “important” part of it and that his memories of Princess Diana wearing each piece “will never go away”.
