All about auras and aura points, the new spiritual TikTok trend

A new spiritual trend has been sweeping through social media in the form of ‘aura points’, which uses an arbitrary points system to reward and measure someone’s social aura (their confidence, attractiveness, and energy).

Over 146million videos have been shared on TikTok, where people display an everyday act which they believe has added to (or detracted from) their ‘aura points’ score; for example, tripping up when walking by your crush might remove 700 points, but treating yourself to a seasonal coffee and taking a time out might add 1,000. It’s a lighthearted way of sharing daily life activities and their impact on a person’s sense of esteem and happiness.

But there’s a lot more to auras than that! In fact, what even is an aura?

Well, we’ve all got one. Simply, it’s looks like the ‘Ready Brek’ glow of light or heat around our bodies, and it’s always there. Our aura is a unique energy field, a halo of light and colour, which expresses your life force and emotions. It shifts and changes as your feelings come and go, and your circumstances change.

The colours in your aura change constantly but one is typically dominant, and that is the part of your aura that others pick up on. We’ve all heard of people being ‘green with envy’, ‘glowing with pride’, ‘radiating sex appeal’, or ‘feeling blue’ – and these are all references to our auras.

We have an innate, often unconscious, reaction to other people’s auras too, despite not actually seeing them with our naked eye. With practice and patience, however, you can train yourself to consciously sense, and even see, more of your own, and another person’s, aura.

To do this, find a room with soft lighting, and ask a friend to sit in front of a plain (ideally dark) background. The lighting must be soft so there are minimal shadows or spotlights. Relax and centre yourself, close your eyes and breathe deeply. When you open them, look past your friend. Stare hard at a point past them, and then let your gaze wander past your friend and back again, and then let it rest. Repeat this process.

You are trying to pick up impressions from the corner of your eye, and then move on quickly. You are training your brain to notice what’s in its periphery vision, and be confident enough at what it’s seeing to ‘report’ back to you. Keep looking at the space around your friend in a gentle, un-forced way, and, in time, you will start to notice lights and colours.

The colours of an aura are like a code. Whatever dominant colour you see will represent the personality and mood of that person.

The seven colours of the light spectrum (AKA the rainbow) make up the auric field. Each represents a different mood or characteristic, as follows:

  • : Passion, ambition, aggression, challenge, drama, strong life force
  • : Flexibility, communication, humour, joyfulness, intellectual ability
  • : Gentleness, romance, altruism, harmony, peace
  • : Confidence, stoicism, calmness, pragmatism, healing
  • : Imagination, creativity, intuition, escapism, enlightenment
  • : Friendliness, optimism, playfulness, fun-seeking, positivity
  • : Serenity, sensitivity, calmness, devotion, sincerity, loyalty

Practice this and you will literally see results, you will be able to match your instincts about people you meet to the evidence of what appears in their aura. It’s so much more than an arbitrary points system!
