A 12-strong Lanark Amateur Swimming Club squad took eight medals from the Falkirk Integrated Regional Swim Team (FIRST) Graded Meet held at Grangemouth Sports Complex last weekend.

Orlaith Jeffrey led the way, winning two golds in 12/13 50m back and 50m breaststroke, and silver in 100m breaststroke.

Emily Taylor won the 100m breaststroke and was third in 50m breaststroke.

Lucy Taylor won her 14/15 200m individual medley and in the 9/11 years age group, Scout MacGillvray won bronze in 100m butterfly, while Olivia Taylor took bronze in 100m backstroke.

After the meet, head coach Karen Kelly said: “It was a satisfying day’s swimming from Lanark.

“Some of the younger ones made the step-up to 100m events and gave it their all.

“In total they posted 27 new personal best times, which was very pleasing.

“The other Lanark swimmers, Kiera Mayo, Sarah Purdon, Clara Taylor, Lewis Tait, Elizabeth Cathcart, Erin Purdon and Erin Lammie can be proud of their efforts, with a solid day’s swimming.”

Falkirk Integrated Regional Swim Team (FIRST) was created in 2006 to improve the level of competitive swimming of clubs in the Falkirk area.

This is achieved by providing a focused training environment, headed by a dedicated full-time professional coach.

The unique integrated partnership incorporates Falkirk Council Community Trust, Bo’ness ASC, Falkirk Otter ASC, Grangemouth ASC and Scottish Swimming.

FIRST has established itself as one of the leading programmes of its kind, with athletes competing successfully at district, Scottish, UK and international level.

The programme has established its own FIRST Open Meet and FIRST Graded Meet in the swimming calendar, both of which are very successful and regarded as excellent competition opportunities by other clubs.

The Graded Meet event took place at Grangemouth Sports Complex on Sunday, September 29, catering for 11 and under, 12/13 and 14/15 ages.
