Homebuilders Cala Homes (West) is set to unveil its latest development, Ballagan Woods, in Killearn this weekend, on the site of the former Killearn Hospital.

Launching tomorrow (Saturday and Sunday) the 89-home development features a selection of three-bed, four-bed, and five-bedroom homes, as well as The Arlow – a two-bedroom terraced bungalow.

Ballagan Woods sits on the site of the former Killearn Hospital and grounds. Former staff of the old hospital are remembered on the site with roads in the development named after a cross-section including a world renowned neurosurgeon, a heart surgeon, a doctor, a pharmacist, a scanner operator, a nurse and an orderly/domestic.

Planning approval was granted by Stirling Council at the start of 2022 to deliver the 89 new homes featuring bungalows, terraced, semi-detached and detached homes.

The brownfield site, one of the largest in the Stirling area and once used as a filming location for STV crime drama Taggart, had been considered an eyesore by many for decades.

Killearn Hospital, built during World War II to house bombing casualties and injured servicemen later catered for orthopaedic and neurosurgical treatments but was closed and abandoned in the 1970s.

Prior to Cala’s involvement, several schemes from various developers were outlined for the site in the past but failed to come to fruition because of prohibitive costs of clearing the site.

Suzanne McElhiney, sales and marketing director at Cala Homes (West), said: “Ballagan Woods is a stunning development, and we’re excited to see the Arlow housetype make its West of Scotland debut here. We have not built bungalow housetypes in the west for some time, so we are excited to introduce these styles, and they make the perfect addition to the mix of homes here at our Killearn development.”
