Kasper Schmeichel was caught scuffing up the penalty spot after Ross County were awarded a penalty – something Chris Sutton said he ‘didn’t like.’

County took a surprise lead in Dingwall thanks to Ronan Hale’s spot-kick after Liam Scales was deemed, after VAR called ref Kevin Clancy over for a pitchside review, to have handled the ball. Hale saw his initial effort saved by Kasper Schmeichel but converted the retake after Clancy admonished the keeper for leaving his line too early.

But it wasn’t any of that drama that got on former Celtic striker Sutton’s nerves – it was Schmeichel‘s antics before the initial penalty. The keeper was seen on Sky Sports’ cameras appearing to scuff up the spot in order to make it awkward for the County striker. And it was pointed out by lead commentator Ian Crocker, who said: “Oops, the old penalty spot scuff from Schmeichel.”

And an irked Sutton added: “I’ve got to say, that’s not on from Kasper Schmeichel. Bit of gamesmanship there.”
