Police are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner died following a crash on the A77.

Emergency services raced to the busy road near to Monkton at around 2.25pm on Thursday, October 3 after reports of a two-vehicle crash. The incident involving a silver Mercedes A200 and a red Renault Captur happened approximately half a mile south of the Dutch House Roundabout.

The driver and passenger of the Renault Captur, a 82-year-old man and a 84-year-old woman, were taken to hospital for treatment. However the man tragically passed away on Sunday. The woman remains in hospital in serious condition.

The road was closed while enquiries were carried out and reopened around 8.30pm.

Sergeant Martin Cunningham of Irvine Road Policing said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this very difficult time.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are appealing to anyone who has not already spoken to officers to get in touch if you can assist. If you were driving in the area and have dash-cam footage that could help with our investigation then please contact us.”

Anyone who can help is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2036 of 3 October 2024.
