A region-wide food drive is under way across Dumfries and Galloway for Challenge Poverty Week.

From now until Sunday, October 13, residents and businesses are being encouraged by Dumfries and Galloway Council to dig deep to help the most vulnerable in society affected by the cost of living crisis.

Anyone who can is being called on to donate an item or items of food to any of a number of collection points across the region which then be taken to one of the foodbanks in operation to pass on to those in need.

Items wanted include: tinned food, pasta, rice, biscuits, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, cans of juice, bottle of juice, cereals, soup, jams and spreads, UHT milk, pasta sauce and sauces.

Also: dried herbs, crisps and snacks, spices, toiletries, washing up liquid, laundry pods, nappies and baby wipes.

In Dumfries they can be taken to the Robert Burns Centre Film Theatre in Mill Road; Ewart Library, Catherine Street; Dumfries Ice Bowl, King Street.

Also, in Dumfriesshire at: Annan Customer Services in the town hall on the High Street; Lockerbie Library on the High Street; and Sanquhar Customer Services at 100, High Street.

Other collection points are: Castle Douglas Customer Services, Market Hill; Kirkcudbright Customer Services, Daar Road Offices, Kirkcudbright; Newton Stewart Customer Services, Church Street; and Stranraer Customer Services, North Strand Street.

• In addition, the council is also calling for donations of coats, jackets, jumpers, cardigans, hats, scarves and gloves at the same collection points.

The Winter Warm Clothes Appeal runs from now until Friday, October 25.
