A five-week-old baby boy has died suddenly in Glasgow. Emergency services raced to an address in the Townhead area of the city shortly before 9am on Monday.

The little boy was transported to hospital, however, he died a short time later.

Locals said police descended on the high-rise flat on St Mungo Place and have been knocking doors in the area.

One said: “There’s CID here as well as uniform talking to neighbours. The mum has two other kids. It’s a shame. He was a cute wee boy.”

Police said enquiries into the sudden death are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.45am on Monday, October 7, 2024, officers were made aware of a baby having taken unwell in the St Mungo Place area of Glasgow.

“The baby, a five-week-old boy, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.”
