WHAT WE FOUND

There is a Tubi settlement worth $19,990,000 after claims the company violated the Video Privacy Protection Act.

The Video Privacy Protection Act prohibits video service providers from disclosing any “personally identifiable information” about a customer without their consent.

In June 2023, a lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, alleging that Tubi shared the personal information of its subscribers with third parties.

Tubi and the plaintiffs agreed to settle the lawsuit in July 2024.

People who used Tubi’s services any time between June 23, 2021 and Aug. 26, 2024 may be eligible for the settlement, the official settlement website says.

Claims can be filed online or by mail. The deadline to file a claim is Nov. 28, 2024.

Those eligible for the settlement will receive payment by check or electronically. The exact payment amount will depend on the number of eligible claims received.

A final approval hearing is currently scheduled for Dec. 4.
