Janey Godley has been given a much-needed boost as she faces end of life care following her terminal cancer diagnosis.
It comes days after the Glasgow comedian, 63, heartbreakingly announced she had moved into “end of life care” after previously revealing she was cancelling her work with immediate effect on the advice from doctors.
However a phone call from an ‘old pal’ and ‘hero’ – which would appear to be the legendary Sir Billy Connolly, 81 – soon had Janey laughing once more with his beloved outrageous humour.
Janey cryptically posted on Twitter on Monday, “A Florida phone call from an old Glasgow pal can fair cheer me up. Same old darkest, offensive, humour and plethora of disgusting swearing as always! Laughter abound!
“What a smile though – what a man – may comedy always be as offensively funny now and forever,” she added. The post has already racked up over 6,000 likes on her page.
Despite undergoing chemotherapy, Janey recently announced that treatment options had been exhausted and she would be entering a hospice for palliative care.
She was forced to halt plans for a UK tour on the advice of doctors after her illness became worse. Making the announcement on social media, she said: “The chemo ran out of options and I couldn’t take any more of it.”
She added: “The cancer has spread, so it looks like this will be getting to near the end of it, and it’s really difficult to speak about this and say it to people.”
The Glasgow comedian previously described Sir Billy as her “hero” after the pair first crossed paths for the first time at a comedy festival in New Zealand.
She said: “I didn’t think comedy was for people like me. And then this man with long hair and big wide flares and platforms comes onto the TV and he sounded like me. That just changed my life.
“They had a Billy Connolly LP and they wore it to death, and everybody I know sat around and listened to that. That’s a cultural shift of magnificent proportions.”

Janey became the first comedian to win the “Spirit of Glasgow comedy award winner” last year after being chosen by Sir Billy. She previously recalled how her whole family used to listen to the former welder’s comedy albums during the 1970s.
She said: “Growing up, everyone had a Billy Connolly LP. I never saw anybody do that with classical music, with jazz music, with pop music, with spoken word, with anything.”
Discussing the reality of her situation, Janey said: “It is devastating news, to know that I’m facing end of life but we all come to an end some time. I don’t know how long I’ve got left before anybody asks, I’m not a tick tock, I just want you all to know that I appreciate all the love you’ve gave me.”
