Children are being urged to get back to the drawing board and come up with their best festive designs for a Christmas card.

Rutherglen’s MP has announced the launch of his second annual Christmas card competition.

Open to entries from school children across the Rutherglen constituency, the winning design will be featured on the front of Michael Shanks’s 2024 Christmas card, and every entry will be displayed at Rutherglen Library during the festive period.

Rachael Quinn of Rutherglen High School fought off tough competition to win last year’s contest, and her winning Christmas tree design card made it all the way to the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, who was “massively impressed”.

Mr Shanks said: “I’m delighted to be launching my second annual Christmas card competition. Last year’s competition was such great fun and it’s a fantastic opportunity for the kids to showcase their talent and creativity.

“Last year I had so many amazing submissions from the talented art class at Rutherglen High School and I’m really excited to see even more creative designs now that schools from all over the constituency are getting involved.

“All designs will be displayed at Rutherglen Library throughout the festive period and I am planning to hold a prize-giving event this December to celebrate entries and get into the Christmas spirit.”

As the nights start to draw in, it could it be a snowy winter wonderland scene, or a Santa with his sleigh design that wins this year, or maybe it will be something with a completely different Christmas slant.

Entries will be received up until noon on Friday, November 7, and can be delivered to Michael Shanks’ constituency office at Aspire Business Centre, 16 Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen, G73 1DL.
