Police officers probing a brutal murder have said the victim was killed in a ‘targeted attack’ as they try and track down those responsible for the street death.

Officers have been checking CCTV from pubs and shops as they hunt for the killer of David Graham, who was fatally injured in a residential area of Uddingston, Lanarkshire, on Sunday evening.

It is believed the 38-year-old suffered serious injuries to his neck. Horrified locals desperately tried to save him while some were seen running to his aid with towels in a bid to stem the blood flow.

Graham, of Cambuslang, had been walking when he was targeted by an assailant around 7.35pm. It is believed he has links to a property in the area where he was attacked.

Police said they are treating his death as murder and appealed for witnesses. Detectives are interested in a silver car which was seen parked near the scene before it drove off.

Sources have revealed officers have been visiting businesses in the area asking to examine security footage as they step up their inquires.

One said: “Police have been asking to see any CCTV footage and asking questions. They have been to a number of locations as they try and piece together what happened. The killing has stunned the area and rumours are getting wild as to what’s been behind it.”

Graham, a married dad, was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but was pronounced dead on arrival by medics.

Police officers taped off the area and locals were quizzed about their movements. Forensic officers in white suits were also seen combing the area for clues into the death.

A source said: “Police have been speaking to people and at least one has been told it was a targeted attack.” Detective Chief Inspector Graham McCreadie said: “A dedicated team of officers are working to get them answers and identify those responsible.

“We have already spoken to a number of people who came to Mr Graham’s aid until the ambulance arrived and I would like to thank them for their assistance.

“However, I am still keen to speak to anyone else who was in the area at the time, and may have seen or heard anything suspicious. Please get in touch with officers.

“We would also urge any motorists with dashcams who were in General’s Gate or Old Glasgow Road areas on Sunday night to check your footage. You may have captured something which could be of significance to our investigation.

“We understand that incidents of this nature can cause concern for the local community but please be assured we are doing everything we can to identify those involved.

He added: “There will be additional patrols in the area as we carry out our enquiries and anyone with any concerns can approach these officers.

“We have also set up a website that gives members of the public access to a form to send information directly to the Major Investigation Team, which can be submitted anonymously if you wish.”
