It’s going to be an exciting few weeks for fast food fans — in case you hadn’t heard, the McRib is returning to McDonald’s and the chain is also launching some new hash brown bites.

If that weren’t enough, Popeyes has a new hot honey range, and Wendy’s just announced some brand new menu items as well.

The quick service business has been a foodie staple in the US since November 1969 when Dave Thomas opened his very first restaurant in Columbus, Ohio. They’ve been cropping up across the UK over the last few years, since making a triumphant return here.

As well as their signature square-shaped beef patties, and the iconic Frosty dessert, Wendy’s will now be offering three new tempting treats for a limited time.

Coming in fresh for autumn is a brand-new burger creation inspired by a hearty dish of French Onion Soup.

The French Onion Cheeseburger (from £5.99) features a juicy quarter-pounder patty made with British and Irish beef, caramelised onions, two slices of cheese, and a creamy savoury mayo.

The whole thing is topped with crunchy fried onions for extra flavour and served in a toasted brioche-style bun.

According to the chain,  it’s ‘the perfect combination of Wendy’s burger mastery and the rich flavours of French onion soup’. They claim that it’s so good, it’ll see you ‘calling time on the competition’. BK and Maccies might want to watch out it seems…

Also joining the current line-up is a twist on the chain’s iconic Frosty, which is somewhere between an ice cream and a milkshake. The new version is a Frozen Hot Chocolate Frosty (£3.49) and comes in either vanilla or chocolate varities.

The Double Egg Stack from wendy's

The dessert, which is ‘thick enough to use a spoon, but also smooth enough to use a straw’, features chocolate sauce and is topped with mini marshmallows. Think Serendipity3, but smaller and much cheaper!

And last but not least, there’s a change being made to the breakfast menu, with an Egg Double Stack being introduced during breakfast hours from £2.99.

Served on a buttered toasted bun and featuring not one, but two freshly cracked eggs and melty American cheese, this is sure to be a fun way to kickstart your mornings.

For those that are yet to try Wendy’s, it’s worth noting that the fast food chain has received plenty of high praise from customers, with some even proclaiming it ‘better than McDonald’s’ and ‘better than Burger King’. Others say the food is ‘marvellous’.

There are currently 33 locations across the UK, in areas such as Cambridge, Brighton, Guildford, Peterborough, London, Whitby, and Reading.

Dee Bespalova — who was recently crowned Starbucks UK’s 2024 Barista Champion, making her the best Starbucks barista in the country — shared her top tips, and one was all to do with language.

‘Sometimes it can feel like coffee has its own language, and I’ve picked up a lot of new terminology during my time behind the bar,’ she said.

‘Some of the terms are more familiar than others — we’ve all heard international visitors request “non-fat”, AKA skimmed milk, and the classic order of a “skinny” latte just means a latte made with skimmed milk, rather than regular.

‘But have you ever heard of a “wet” cappuccino? Or perhaps you prefer yours dry? A cappuccino is a delicious blend of coffee, steamed milk and that traditional foamy top. A “wet” cappuccino changes up the ratios a little and has more steamed milk and less foam, while a dry cappuccino has less steamed milk and more foam.’
