After their disappointing loss to the Vikings on Sunday in London to fall 2-3 on the season, the Jets have fired head coach Robert Saleh, according to sources.

Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will be the interim head coach, a source said. The Jets will host the Bills on Monday Night Football in Week 6 in a matchup for first place in the AFC East,

Saleh registered a 20-36 record in four seasons with the Jets. This is the first time since becoming the Jets owner in 2000 that Woody Johnson has fired a coach during the middle of the season.

The Jets hired Saleh as their coach in 2021, following a successful stint as the 49ers’ defensive coordinator from 2017-21. After two losing seasons, the Jets acquired Aaron Rodgers in a trade with the Packers in April 2023. At that point, Gang Green was expected to become Super Bowl contenders but that hasn’t materialized.

However, Saleh received a mulligan following a 7-10 campaign in 2023 and Rodgers’ season-ending Achilles injury. But through five weeks and a 2-3 record, it was clear something needed to be fixed as the Jets offense continued to be putrid under Saleh’s leadership following back-to-back losses to the Broncos and Vikings.

Gang Green’s only victories this season have come against the Titans and Patriots, who both currently have losing records.

The Jets offense currently ranks 27th in yards (286.6) and 25th in points per game (18.6). Meanwhile, their defense remains the Jets’ most robust unit, as they are second in yards (255.8) and points (17.0) allowed.

This is a developing story.
