Filming for Gavin and Stacey has officially come to an end, it’s been confirmed.

The beloved BBC sitcom, starring Joanna Page and Mathew Horne, is returning with one last episode this Christmas.

Details over the script have been kept tightly under wraps so far, though plot theories have emerged as the actors have been caught filming by fans.

And the BBC has now confirmed that filming for the special has wrapped up.

A picture of a clapper board reading ‘Gavin & Stacey The Finale’, showed the 80th scene had been filmed.

‘And that’s a wrap… for the last time ever. See you on Christmas Day!’ the caption read.

The hit TV series aired for three series between 2007 and 2010 and made a comeback in 2019 for a one-off festive episode which ended on a cliff-hanger when Ruth Jones’s character Nessa proposed to Neil ‘Smithy’ Smith, played by James Corden.

After the five-year wait of not knowing what happened in their relationship, pictures from the set in Barry Island revealed that Smithy seemingly came to his senses and said ‘yes’ and that they’ll finally get their happily ever after.

Cats actor James, 46, announced the show’s 2024 return in an Instagram post in May by sharing an image of him and Ruth with a script titled Gavin And Stacey: The Finale.

The original cast, including Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb, Melanie Walters and Rob Brydon, have all been spotted filming in Wales and other locations.

This comes after James gave an emotional speech to fans after they finished filming at Pam and Mick’s ‘Essex’ home, which is actually in South Wales.

He told locals: ‘Today is our last day in “Essex”. Everyone in Dinas Powys has been so great to the show and all of you that have come out here today, so thank you very, very much.

‘It means more to us than you will ever know and we really, really hope you like the show.’

Ruth reportedly added: ‘Thanks so much for being such dedicated fans and for being here every day and watching us even though we were there hid in the house.

‘We hope that you will enjoy our little episode on Christmas Day.’

Last month, the cast finished filming on Trinity Street in Barry Island, and waved goodbye to fans.

In a video previously shared to social media, Ruth addressed the cheering crowd for one last time, saying: ‘Thank you so much for coming here today and being so patient because you haven’t seen anything because we’ve been indoors!

‘You won’t be seeing us here anymore. But we’ve had a wonderful 17 years. It’s been fantastic.’

‘Thank you very much for everything, we’ll see you soon,’ James added.
