A man who died after being hit by a car in an early-morning crash in Paisley has been named by police as his family paid a touching tribute.

Stephen Craig and another male were struck by the vehicle as they walked along the town’s Hawkhead Road around 8.10am on Wednesday, September 18.

This morning, Police Scotland released a picture of Stephen as they appealed for information regarding his death and urged members of the public to get in touch with them.

In a statement, Stephen’s heartbroken family paid tribute to the 50-year-old and said: “Stephen was a devoted husband and father. His loss has been devastating for all who knew him.”

Stephen, of Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, passed away in hospital on Sunday, September 22.

He and the other man, 40, had been rushed to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries after emergency services raced to the scene.

The driver of the car was not injured and officers from Police Scotland are now trying to establish exactly what led to the collision which caused the road to be shut for eight hours while police investigated.

Sergeant Scott Gourlay said: “Our thoughts remain with Stephen’s family at this very difficult time. Enquiries are ongoing into the full circumstances of the crash.

“We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash, and has yet to speak to officers, to please get in touch.”
