A driver has revealed a simple trick to prevent car windows from fogging up.

There’s nothing more frustrating when winter arrives than going to your car to commute, to visit friends or to do your weekly shop, only to find the windows obscured by condensation. It’s a problem that can become particularly hard to tackle during the winter months, when misty windows become all the more common.

Getting rid of the obstruction can take time and be expensive if you use air conditioning to blast it away. But social media users tout one clever tip that they swear by, claiming shaving cream, applied directly onto the window, can stop windows from becoming foggy in the first place.

A YouTube video by Tech Know How, which had racked up over 63k views at the time of writing, began: “Today I’m going to show you something really cool. We’re going to take shaving cream, and I’ll show you another use for it.”

The channel’s host proceeds to smear the shaving foam on one side of a car window with a microfibre cloth while leaving the other half clear. “It’s going to make it so it doesn’t fog up,” he added, before illustrating the effectiveness by breathing on the glass, revealing one side stays crystal clear.

Viewers were thrilled with the technique and many took to the comments to confirm the method’s effectiveness. One commented: “I’m a witness that this indeed does work.”

Another added: “Thanks SO much for your amazing video. Living in a Ski Resort here in Montana, this gem is a life saver for our wild winters! “.

This trick is effective because shaving cream contains similar components to defogging products, but it’s usually available at a much lower cost. It can prevent windows from fogging up for several weeks before needing another application.
