Staff at First Class Nursery Livingston Village were confronted with the mess when they arrived to open up after the weekend and were left “disheartened and upset” by the sight that greeted them.

At some point over the weekend, vandals had smashed ornaments, daubed the walls and playground with paint, broke toys and trashed a fairy garden.

Angry manager, Katrina Davidson, said: “When we opened the nursery on Monday morning, we were so disheartened and upset by the sights of the nursery grounds. Someone had smashed all our ornaments at the entrance, used then stole the children’s paints after making a mess over the ground and walls.

“They opened an Amazon parcel that was left in the garden and threw it all over the garden as well as taking a few items from the package.

“They destroyed the fairy garden that they children and staff had worked very hard to create, they threw ride-on toys up on to our canopy, luckily did not damage it, and broke toys in the pre-school garden.”

Katrina is now appealing for people in the area to get in touch if they saw anything suspicious over the weekend, or have captured anyone on doorbell footage with paint bottles.

She added: “It was upsetting for the children and the staff to see the vandalism of the garden and resources they cherish. I am extremely disappointed that someone would be so callous and hope that it is an isolated incident.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.05 on Tuesday, 8 October, officers received a report of damage at a premises on Kirk Lane, Livingston.

“Enquiries are at an early stage.”
