Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a “lovely” man after a body was found in a woodland in Midlothian.

Officers made the discovery today, Wednesday, October 9, at around 12.25pm, during their searches for Robert Blair, 67, who vanished from the Dalkeith area on Monday.

Formal identification is yet to take place but the body found in the Mayfield area of the town is believed to be Robert. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

A police helicopter and mountain rescue teams were all involved in the search for Robert. Friends in the local community lined up to pay tribute to the popular man.

Pamela Jane Robertson commented: “Devastated to hear this sad news, thoughts with family. What a sad loss, he was a great guy. We shared lots of good memories together.”

Becki Paterson said: “You always gave us laughs and would brighten anyone’s day. You were the best friend to my dad and will be missed by all who knew you.”

Robert Hogg said: “Gutted to hear this, I was fearing the worst when I heard he was missing. He was a lovely man who would blether away to you. Also a good artist and was always drawing.”

Emma Louise Danielle commented: “Legend, he will be hugely missed and always made everyone around him laugh. Thank you for some good times, thinking of all the family.”

Simon Loveley added: “Rest in peace, I was only speaking to him last week. My heart is filled with such sadness. Respect to all family at this tragic time.
