Good Morning Britain’s entertainment guru Richard Arnold has shared that he will be taking a significant break from the ITV morning programme, with plans to return later in the month.

The 54 year old, who has been a staple on the show for years delivering the latest in showbiz news, quipped about “retiring” as he prepares for his extended hiatus from the show.

Richard did, however, confirm that he will make a comeback for the Pride of Britain awards, which is typically held towards the end of October. Following a segment updating hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls on Big Brother during Tuesday morning’s broadcast, Susanna informed viewers to tune in for more updates the next day.

Realising Richard wouldn’t be there, she corrected herself, saying: “And if you can’t watch it, don’t miss Richard tomorrow morning at this time,” to which Richard interjected: “I’m on leave.”

This prompted an “Oh no,” from Susanna and a momentary pause among them, reports the Mirror. The beloved TV personality then joked: “I’m retiring from public life, until the 21st, I’ll be back for Pride of Britain! ” He went on to share what he’ll be up to during his break.

When co-host Ed inquired if he would be visiting Ireland, Richard clarified: “No, no, I’ll be spending a bit of quality time with mother. As always.” Susanna praised her colleague, saying: “You’re the ideal son, I just hope that my sons at your age could say the same thing.”

Richard responded with a chuckle: “I wish my mother would say the same thing!”

In a moment of levity back in August, Richard gave a rare glimpse into his personal life while discussing a domestic spat, revealing to viewers: “My other half and I have fallen out over a shower attachment,” prompting laughter from those on set.

Earlier in the year, he shared about his long-term relationship, noting that although nearly two decades have passed, marriage still isn’t on the cards yet he seems hopeful, divulging: “We’ve been together for 19 years now my partner and I, it feels like five minutes, underwater. Still no ring on my finger, but I’m waiting.”
