Queens defender Oscar MacIntyre told of his frustration there is no competitive game this weekend for the team to bounce back.

The South slumped to a 5-1 defeat in last Saturday’s home league clash with Kelty Hearts, but they are out of action tomorrow due to the SPFL Trust Trophy ties.

Anguished MacIntyre, on loan from Hibs, is desperate to wipe out the horror memory of Queens’ heavy defeat plus the loss of their unbeaten home record in League One.

He said: “It is the cup games on Saturday and so it’s a free week.

“But we were wanting a game as quick as possible, obviously, to get back on the right track.

“I think it was just that the first 20 minutes (against Kelty) I thought we settled in really well and then I think the first goal totally took the wind out of us and it just went downhill from there.

“It’s not good enough from us. When you go three nil down you obviously still feel that you have got a chance when you get to half-time.

“And then getting the one back we really thought we had a chance, but we just left ourselves too open at the back. It was definitely one to forget.”

Despite the Doonhamers’ dismal defeat against Kelty Hearts, the match had a special significance for MacIntyre as it was the first time he had faced his brother Jacob.

He said: “To be honest we were not really talking about it too much, it was just saying like I will beat you and he said to me we are going to beat you. That was pretty much it.”

Asked how his parents would split their loyalties on match days, MacIntyre replied: “I am not sure how it is going to work because this was our first game.

“I have only played with him at Hibs, I didn’t play against him even at boys club level.”

Queen of the South’s next match is the long trek north to face Cove Rangers on October 19.

Now MacIntyre is counting down the hours for that one and he added: “We were on a good run before this game (against Kelty) and so hopefully we can just get back on it.”
