Michael Schumacher’s social media accounts have ended a five-month hiatus following the Formula One legend’s discreet first public appearance since his life-changing 2013 skiing accident in the French Alps.

The Schumacher family has maintained a tight circle of privacy around the motor racing star’s health updates, Dublin Live reports.

Former Ferrari chief Jean Todt, 55, conveyed warm recollections to L’Equipe last December, expressing: “Michael is here, so I don’t miss him. He is simply not the Michael he used to be.”

In a tender expression, Todt also shared: “He is different, and is wonderfully guided by his wife and children who protect him. His life is different now, and I have the privilege of sharing moments with him. That’s all there is to say.”

Despite intense confidentiality, it’s speculated that Schumacher attended his daughter Gina-Maria’s wedding to Iain Bethke in Majorca this past September, with the occasion kept under wraps as guests were reportedly required to forgo their mobiles to safeguard any images of Schumacher.

After months of quiet, Schumacher’s likely representative-monitored social channels flickered back to activity on Tuesday with a tweet celebrating the champion’s remarkable career, marking the first post since May.

Sharing a throwback of triumphant times on social media, the account uploaded some celebratory photos from the 2000 victory podium, with a caption that read: “Exploding emotions. F1 GP Japan, first world championship title with Ferrari on this day in 2000.”
