Ryanair passengers may be hit with increased fees of up to £45 under new guidelines. The budget airline has once again revised its luggage prices, this time impacting passengers travelling with checked-in bags.

The low-cost carrier is renowned for its stringent baggage policies and has ‘sizers’ at all of its airport gates to ensure that customers adhere to the rules. Passengers are only permitted to bring a small personal bag on board free of charge unless they upgrade to Priority boarding, which allows them to bring an additional large cabin bag, or pay extra for a checked-in bag.

In the past, Ryanair charged between £11.99 and £29.99 to add a 10kg check-in bag at the time of booking, or between £23.99 and £35.99 to do so afterwards or at the airport on the day of the flight, the M.E.N reports.

However, the ‘fees’ list on the airline’s website now indicates that passengers can expect to pay between £9.49 and £44.99 to add a 10kg check-in bag at the time of booking. The exact cost is dependent on the route and date of travel, meaning some passengers may pay slightly less than before, but those paying the higher charge will now face an increase of £15.

The fee for adding a 10kg hold bag after booking or at the airport has seen a hike, now costing between £23.99 and £44.99, marking an increase of up to £9 at the higher end. On the flip side, the price to add a 20kg check-in bag post-booking has been reduced for some travellers, shifting from a range of £44.99 – £59.99 to a new bracket of £39.99 – £59.99.

Ryanair have not provided a public statement regarding the price adjustments, but its website clarifies: “Fee varies depending on the route and travel dates selected.

“Non-priority customers who have not added a bag to their booking can still purchase a 10kg check-in bag at the airport bag drop desk for €/£ 35.99-€/£40. Non-priority customers who bring their 10kg Check-in bag to the boarding gate may check it in against payment of a fee of €/£ 46.00 – €/£ 60.00.”

Last week, it was also reported that Ryanair had bumped up the cost for passengers opting for Priority boarding, with the price range now set from £20 to £60, up from the previous £20 to £38.

Social media users have voiced their frustration over Ryanair’s additional fees, with @micha4768 on X expressing outrage: “OMG @Ryanair 40 quid for a 10kg hold bag, absolutely disgusting price wouldn’t have been so bad for a 22kg hold, but that is DISGUSTING. I’ll never again fly with you.”

EddieHa35418086 queried: “@Ryanair why are baggage charges so high? ” In contrast, @Sickboy_Mcsatan warned: “Just avoid Ryanair if you can, they make EasyJet seem luxurious and customer friendly. They charge extra for *every* little thing, I’ll never use them again if there’s an alternative.”

Conversely, some flyers are more forgiving about the added costs. For instance, @IMegy71 observed: “I bet it is still cheaper on Ryanair than other airlines, even with the additional charge.”

Planning to travel with Ryanair soon? To prevent incurring fees for oversized luggage, luxury brand Antler has currently reduced its Brixham Cabin Bag by £51 during their Prime Week Sale.

The bag, which is currently £119.00 down from £170.00 is an ideal size to be accepted as a ‘large cabin bag’ for your Ryanair journey and has 108 glowing five-star reviews on the website.

For those travelling without Priority boarding, consider Antlers Soft Stripe Underseat Cabin Bag, priced at £130. It could lead to significant savings for regular travellers considering upgrading to a larger case, although one should always verify airline baggage size guidelines in advance.
