Dumfries Museum is staging a drop-in Medieval Murder Mystery event on Thursday from 11am to 3pm.

Combining science and history, the free fun family activity day takes a closer look at one of the town’s most historic moments – the slaying of the Red Comyn in Greyfriars Monastery.

In 1306, Robert the Bruce and the Red Comyn walked into the building – but only one of them walked out.

The museum will be asking: “Who killed the Comyn?” and there will be a chance to meet medieval characters and hear their story, then try some modern forensic science techniques to help piece together the evidence.

Along with trying out chromatography experiments on ink, studying clothes fibres, fingerprints and footprints, you can also handle replica medieval artefacts and see original objects from the time – even some of the famed Kingof Scots’ bones.

No need to book.
