The five fastest speeds that motorists have been captured travelling at on a Police Scotland speed camera in the region all came at the same motorway location.
In new figures, unearthed via a Freedom of Information (FoI) by the Stirling Observer, it is revealed that the fastest motorist travelling in the area to be clocked on a police speed camera was doing a terrifying 134mph.
We requested to know what the top five fastest speeds recorded where as well as the location from which those speeds were observed between October 1, 2023, and October 1 this year.
The data requested was from within the following postcode areas – FK6, FK7, FK8, FK9, FK10, FK11, FK12, FK13, FK14, FK15, FK16, FK17, FK18, FK19, FK20 and FK21.
The response to the FoI request shows that the top speeds clocked were 134mph, 114mph, 110mph, 105mph and 103mph – all of which were recorded at the same location of the M80 motorway.
All five speeds were recorded by the East Safety Camera Unit on the stretch of motorway close from the Barnego Road Overbridge in Dunipace.

The camera there is a mobile device and observes the speed of vehicles passing along the road, where the limit is 70mph.
It’s not the first time such inappropriate speeds have been clocked on the route.
Figures previously obtained showed the five fastest speeds recorded between January 2022 and August 2023 were also all recorded at the location – with speeds ranging from 119mph to 105mph.
In July 2019, the Stirling Observer told how a speedster was clocked doing double the limit on the same stretch.
The motorist was detected doing 129mph.
At that time, Inspector Andrew Thomson, of the Forth Valley Road Policing Unit based at Randolphfield, said: “Driving at high speed places both driver and other road users at significant risk.
“This driver has displayed a flagrant disregard for their own safety and that of all other road users. There is no excuse for driving at such an inappropriate speed.”
