A woman has shared her heartbreak after discovering her husband of seven years was having an affair in the most devastating way – by catching him in the act.

The couple, who have an eight-year-old son together, had been under stress, but she believed they were “handling it as a team” until she walked in on him sleeping with their neighbour.

In a post on Reddit, the mum explained that she and her neighbours – to whom she gave false names Emily and Dave – got along well but weren’t “super close”. She first noticed something was amiss when her husband started being “more secretive” with his phone, but dismissed her worries as “paranoia” because she never thought he would “do something like that” to her.

She explained: “Then, one day, everything came crashing down. I had to come home early from work unexpectedly because our son’s school had a half-day I forgot about. I walked in, and there, in our bedroom, I found my husband and Emily … together. In our bed. I felt like the world stopped.”

After confronting her husband that evening, he admitted to having an affair with Emily “for a few months”, begging for forgiveness and calling it a “stupid, impulsive thing”, but she concluded she “couldn’t stay with someone” who breached her trust so deeply. Yet, the saga escalated further when she disclosed the affair to Emily’s husband, Dave.

To her shock, both her husband and Emily condemned her for revealing their affair, with Emily accusing her of “ruining her life”.

She detailed: “Both my husband and Emily went ballistic when they found out I’d told Dave. My husband said I should have kept it between us and worked it out for the sake of our son. Emily called me all kinds of names, saying I had no right to tell her husband and that I ruined her life. She even claimed it wasn’t ‘serious’ and that I blew everything out of proportion.”

Now, as Dave ponders a divorce, she is already proceeding with one from her husband, despite earning criticism from friends who argue it wasn’t her place to inform Dave.

However, those commenting on the post were adamant that she had made the right decision. One individual commented: “Emily wasn’t going to ever tell her husband, and he had the right to know. It was very much your right to tell him, seeing as she was banging your husband.”

Another added: “You did the right thing. I’m so sorry for your pain. Your husband and his affair partner need to own this. Including the anger. They are always sorry when they are caught.”
