A husband and wife died as a result of gunshot wounds to the head, an inquest has heard. The couple, Christine and Stephen Jefferies, aged 72 and 74 respectively, were discovered by their daughter at their Cardiff home on Saturday, October 5.

She entered their house with her own key after finding no one answered the door.

A spokesperson for Pontypridd Coroners’ Court shared the tragic circumstance: “There was no reply at the door so she let herself into the secure property using her key. Stephen and his wife Christine were located deceased in their bedroom with gunshot wounds. Officers located the gun at the scene.”

Paramedics confirmed the deaths at around 2.50pm on October 5, at the pair’s semi-detached residence on Morfa Crescent, Trowbridge. Dr Stephen Leadbeatter conducted a post-mortem at the Princess of Wales Hospital, suggesting the provisional cause of both their deaths to be a gunshot wound to the right temple.

Additionally, their pet cocker spaniel was found dead at the property, reports Wales Online.

The inquest into the tragic event has been adjourned to carry out further investigations, with family liaison officers assigned to support the bereaved relatives. Previously, reports mentioned that a rifle was recovered from the property.

South Wales Police has clarified that they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the Jefferies’ passing.
