Kate Moss made a surprise debut alongside her daughter Lila as the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show returned for the first time in six-years.
Moss, 50, wore a lace-covered slip dress over a black bodysuit ensemble with a pair of feathered angel wings, as she emerged during a rendition of Joan Jett & The Blackhearts’ 1981 track I Love Rock ’n’ Roll.
Her 22-year-old daughter Lila also appeared on the runway at the event which was held at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on Tuesday night.
When the first Victoria’s Secret show was held back in the 1990s, Moss was the poster girl for the decade’s grunge and Britpop movements.
She said: “I saw bits of it, of course. But I wasn’t really an underwear girl… I wasn’t a Victoria’s Secret girl.”
Having last walked the catwalk in 2022 for Bottega Veneta, she added: “It’s fun and exciting, but I still get nervous. It’s just on such a huge scale.
“When I used to do shows all the time obviously I didn’t even think about it – we’d just do back to back shows on the same day.
“Now it’s such a different thing, eight hours before a show for hair and make-up.
She added: “Everybody buys clothes, not just 22-year-old girls. That’s why it’s good to show older women and bigger women, to be more inclusive of everyone.”
The lingerie brand’s catwalk show was scrapped after its 2018 edition drew low ratings as well as criticism that it was sexist, outdated and lacked diversity.
Ratings dropped and controversies plagued the brand, including former marketing head Ed Razek’s 2018 apology for comments he made on why transgender and plus-sized models were not featured on the runway.
This time world’s most famous models and musicians including Gigi Hadid and sister Bella took part in the show which broke new ground with Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio, 27, and American Alex Consani, 21, becoming the first trans women to grace its New York City catwalk.
Plus-sized models including Ashley Graham and Paloma Elsesser also took part.
Bella wore a red and black ombre tulle cape with a long train as she emerged during a performance from Cher – whose boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards was at the event.
The fashion show, which was launched in 1995, would ordinarily attract millions of viewers each year and big-name performers like Rihanna and Taylor Swift.
Cher performed a medley of her 1998 track Strong Enough and the remix of her hit song Believe as she led the show’s first line-up of all female performers, including K-pop star Lisa and South African singer Tyla.
US model Tyra Banks returned to the show for the first time in two decades, closing the catwalk wearing a silver metallic cape and bodice ensemble as pink confetti rained down.
The event’s executive producer Janie Schaffer highlighted its diversity, saying there were 50 models from 25 different countries.
