A Hamilton company which is currently building a new development in the town has been honoured for a second successive year at a major industry event.

Procast was named project management company of the year at the national energy efficiency awards, becoming this year’s only Scottish winner for its work in retrofitting “hard-to-treat properties”.

The firm is currently working with West of Scotland housing association to build a development of 12 flats at the former Low Waters bowling green, beside its Alness Street headquarters.

Procast took the award for carrying out full retrofit projects throughout Scotland and the north of England, with a total value last year of £40 million.

The Hamilton company won the insulation and fabric installer category at last year’s Scottish final, and this year received their UK-wide award from comedian and actor Jason Manford at a ceremony in Birmingham hosted by TV presenter Mark Durden-Smith.

Staff are currently working with their housing association on the Alness Street site – to be known as Mitchell Court and which is due to be completed early in the new year.

The 12 homes will have solar panels and electric vehicle charging points, and Procast managing director Derek Innes said last month that they are “fit for the future [and] which we believe residents will truly love”.

He said: “It’s directly adjacent to our offices so it’s a particularly special one for us; it will really invigorate this area of the town and deliver much-needed affordable homes, especially in the current climate.

“We are hugely passionate about creating warm, energy efficient homes that are built for today’s living and equipped for the needs of tomorrow.”

The development will also have a communal garden, and will add to West of Scotland housing association’s stock of more than 170 affordable homes in Hamilton – including the recently-redeveloped former St Andrew’s Church.

Energy Efficiency Awards director Gary Braybrooke said of the ceremony, founded in 2014: “[This year has] been our biggest and best yet – we have had more entries than ever, and the bar is constantly being raised by the remarkable individuals and organisations in our industry.

“Their achievements are helping making people’s lives better throughout the country, and we take great delight in honouring them and their accomplishments.”
