BLUEFIELD, Va. – Bluefield University welcomed their new president to the job on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Dr. Steven Peterson was inaugurated as the tenth President in university history.

Peterson was born and raised outside of Philadelphia, and attended Liberty University. After graduating, Peterson began his professional career in Lynchburg.

While at Liberty he worked directly under then-president and world-renowned Pastor Jerry Falwell.

His most recent position was at Houston Christian University.

Peterson said he is excited to get to work and is looking forward to putting an emphasis on the student body.

“It’s an exciting day and in some ways, there was a lot said about me, but it was really a celebration for the university. In my address I talked about a blueprint for the future and the changing needs of students,” Peterson said.

The special guest speaker for today’s inauguration was Liberty University’s Chancellor and Senior Pastor of the Thomas Road Baptist Church, Reverend Jonathan Falwell.
