Former One Direction singer Liam Payne has died at age 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, according to state police.
Authorities are reportedly investigating whether his death was accidental or suicide.
TMZ confirmed Payne’s death, reporting he died after a four-story fall Wednesday evening at the CasaSur Hotel in the city’s Palermo neighborhood.
Alberto Crescenti, the director of Buenos Aires’ emergency medical services system, also confirmed the death, according to Argentine news outlet TN.
The 31-year-old popstar had recently attended a performance by his former bandmate Niall Horan. That visit generated speculation the British boyband, which included Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, might reunite.
Payne’s representatives in Great Britain did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
