BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) – Police in Birmingham have arrested a suspect in connection to a mass shooting that left four people dead and who they believe is responsible for other shootings in the city.

Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond announced that 22-year-old Damien McDaniel has been charged for the mass shooting that occurred in the Five Points South entertainment district in Birmingham and for two other shootings.

McDaniel has been charged with capital murder and 17 counts of attempted murder in the Five Points South mass shooting on Sept. 21 and charged with murder in the shooting death of Diontranet Brown at the 604 Bar and Lounge on 9th Street N. Sept. 19.

Authorities say it appears that Brown was an innocent bystander in the shooting.

On Sept. 22, Jamarcus Desean McIntrye was shot and killed in the 700 block of 81st Place South. McDaniel along with Ny’Quan Lollar, Larry Rollins Jr., and Demarco Beck were charged in the shooting.

McDaniel is the only suspect who has been charged in all three shootings.

Rollins Jr. was also charged with trafficking heroin.

All charges for the four suspects have no bond.

Police say they received over 300 tips through Crime Stoppers and the BPD QR code throughout the investigation.

“We applaud the community for coming forward. We’ve never had that many tips in any case before. Hats off to the community for sharing that information with us and being willing to share that information with us,” stated Thurmond.

“After the horrific shooting at Five Points South, we vowed that our priority would be to find, capture, and arrest every person responsible for this heinous and brazen mass shooting. We told you this is what we’d do, and this is what we did,” Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin said in a statement released Wednesday.
