Outlander’s second half of season seven has been teased with an exclusive new clip which teases the troubling return of a divisive character.

Throughout earlier seasons of the hit Starz show, Laoghaire MacKenzie (played by Nell Hudson) was infatuated with Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and fiercely jealous of his wife Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe).

However, the pair were married for some time when Claire returned to her original timeline for 20 years, though the relationship ended in disaster.

Actress Hudson was already confirmed to be returning for more drama in the next eight episodes of season seven following an absence from the show of three seasons.

A newly released scene from the next instalment has now confirmed how she’ll be re-introduced – and fans have been left rather confused.

Laoghaire has become one of Outlander’s most divisive characters

On Instagram, Outlander’s official account shared the clip exclusively obtained by TVLine.

Meeting up with Claire, Jamie warns her: “I need to see Laoghaire. Will you kill me if I do?”

Claire is rather nonplussed, replying to ask her husband if he’s seeking her permission to pay his ex-wife a visit.

Jamie admits he’s not, adding he just thought she should know. Claire responds, “That’s very considerate”, and asks why he wants to see her.

Her husband responds: “I didnae say I want to see her. I need to.” To which Claire cheekily retorts: “You know, if you want to find out who she’s sleeping with, there are less direct ways…”

Jamie didn’t confirm if this was the case, leaving some Outlander fans baffled as to why the Highlander might need to check his former flame’s relationship status.

“I can’t think of a single reason why Jamie would care who Lagohaire is sleeping with..lol” one confused viewer replied.

To which someone responded: “And honestly I don’t ever need to hear the “L” name ever again.”

Another confounded devotee commented: “I definitively don’t understand Jamie, what does he feel the need to see Laoghaire again. Is this about the alimony he’s been paying her for years?”

And a final fan fumed: “I thought we were finally rid of her!?”

Many Outlander devotees will be understandably peeved to see Jamie cross paths with Laoghaire again, considering her unforgivable actions towards Claire.

Those who have read Diana Gabaldon’s novels already know the full story, but how will Laoghaire react to an unexpected visit from her past?

Outlander season seven part two premieres on Friday, November 22, on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
