Liam Payne’s final song before his tragic passing, titled Teardrops, features the lyrics ‘I am broken too’. Earlier this year, the former One Direction star released the single and told fans: “This song is born from many tears.”

Payne tragically passed away after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. According to local authorities, the 31-year-old singer plunged into the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel, located in the Palermo area of the city, and medics later confirmed his death.

Buenos Aires police reported that officers were first called to the scene due to reports of a “violent individual who might have been influenced by drugs and alcohol.” The Foreign Office confirmed it is in contact with authorities in Argentina “regarding reports of the death of a British man”.

Images have captured fans in disbelief as they gathered outside the hotel, where police had secured the area. Forensic investigators, dressed in white protective suits and blue gloves, have also been pictured coming in and out of the location.

In an impromptu vigil for the popstar, fans were seen lighting candles and leaving flowers on the side of the road as they paid tribute. In the hours before his death, Payne reportedly posted a video on Snapchat saying: “It’s a lovely day here in Argentina.”

In an Instagram post from 32 weeks ago featuring behind-the-scenes clips of Payne singing Teardrops, he wrote: “Teardrops is out now. This song is born from many tears, not all mine. I hope you love it like I do and not too many of you can relate.”

In what has become his final solo single, the ‘Teardrops’ singer’s lyrics include the lines: “Teardrops are falling down your face again, ’cause I don’t know how to love you when I am broken too.

“All we do is break and bend, I’m struggling to see the sunrise lately. Really wish that I could mend all the little things that make you crazy. Checking all my friends, tryna to see what I did last night. Lately, I’m hating on myself ’cause I hate it when I make you cry.”

The song is available on all major streaming platforms, including YouTube, Spoify and Apple Music. Payne’s passing follows reports that his former fiancée, Maya Henry, had initiated legal action, allegedly sending a cease and desist letter due to ongoing communication.

The US model was engaged to Payne from August 2020 until he announced their separation in June 2021. She claimed in a recent TikTok video that, since their break-up, the singer would ‘blow up my phone’ from different numbers.

Payne rose to stardom at the age of 16 after he returned to ITV’s The X Factor two years after his first audition. He became part of boy band One Direction in 2010 alongside Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Harry Styles.
