A prominent boyband star has made an urgent appeal to the music industry following the tragic death of Liam Payne.

The ex-One Direction member sadly lost his life at the age of 31 on October 16, 2024, after a fall from the third floor of an Argentinian hotel.

Liam had been touring the country with his partner Kate Cassidy for a fortnight before the devastating news of his death was confirmed, leaving fans worldwide in mourning.

In response to the tragedy, Boyzone’s Mikey Graham has called for significant reforms within the music business. He insists that record companies should employ psychologists to support young artists coping with their newfound fame.

Taking to X, previously known as Twitter, Mikey expressed his condolences: “Rip Liam Payne. Such tragic news. I think it would be a wise move for record companies to have psychologists on their books from now on in his memory as a duty of care for the vulnerability of their young talent. Fame can be very damaging especially in today’s world. Lots of money. Nobody to help. Lots of yes people. Nobody honest.”

Emergency services, including police, firefighters and ambulances, were spotted outside the hotel where Liam met his untimely end. Reports suggest that police were responding to a disturbance involving a man behaving aggressively, possibly under the influence of substances, reports the Mirror.

A body was discovered in an internal courtyard of a hotel, prompting the hotel manager to call the police. It is believed that Liam fell from a height of approximately 13 or 14 metres, sustaining “very serious injuries incompatible with life”.

The local ambulance service manager stated to TN: “At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel.

“There is an internal courtyard where the victim fell, with tables and chairs: the hotel’s confectionery shop operates there. The space has a retractable roof that was open at the time. Fortunately, there were no other people there,” case sources reported.

It has been reported that Liam had checked into the hotel alone prior to his death. City ambulance service spokesman Alberto Crescenti confirmed that he had fallen approximately 40 metres and suffered “severe injuries which were incompatible with life”.

He explained: “The alarm was raised at 5.04pm local time saying a person was lying in an internal patio at Casa Sur. At 5.11pm an ambulance arrived and the man was certified dead. Afterwards we found out he had been a famous singer. Unfortunately the injuries he had suffered as a result of the fall proved to be fatal. There was no possibility of resuscitating him.”

An autopsy is currently in progress as part of the investigative process. Alberto Crescenti, head of the state emergency medical system, verified that the vocalist plummeted into an inner courtyard at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel.

Speaking to Argentina’s Todo Noticias TV channel, Crescenti disclosed: “A few minutes later [an] emergency team arrived and confirmed the death of this man who we later learned was from a musical group.”

He added: “He had injuries incompatible with life as a result of his fall. There was no way to do anything.”
