Liam Payne has tragically passed away at the age of 31, and his fans are convinced his final song alluded to his heartbreaking struggles. The ex-One Direction member died on Wednesday following a fall from a third-floor balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Emergency services responded to a call at about 5pm concerning “an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol”. Upon arrival, they reported hearing a loud noise from the internal courtyard where they then found the body.

In March, Liam had taken to Instagram to share his solo “Teardrops,” stating: “This song is born from many tears, not all mine. I hope you love it like I do and not too many of you can relate.”

One fan said on X (formerly Twitte ): “Liam Payne’s recent lyrics, ‘Teardrops are falling, Down your face again, cause I Don’t know how to love you when! I am broken too’ hit particularly hard. It’s heartbreaking to think he was only 31!” Another fan said: “The last song Liam Payne released. Singing about being a broken man. Teardrops definitely fell on my face today…”

On one of his final Instagram posts, fans have been sending in their thoughts for his family during this difficult time, with one saying: “Rest in peace Liam, may your family and your son be blessed and comforted during this time.” Another added: “Rest in peace. I can’t believe this.”

Liam welcomed his son Bear with Cheryl in 2017, when he was aged 23. The couple parted ways the following year after a two-and-a-half year relationship.

TV presenter Dermot O’Leary has recalled Liam auditioning for The X Factor as a 14-year-old boy alongside future bandmates Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, as he paid tribute to the singer following his death.

O’Leary, who hosted The X Factor during both of Payne’s appearances, shared a photograph of the pair on stage, captioning the Instagram post: “The worst news. I remember him as a 14-year-old turning up to audition on The X Factor, and blowing us away singing Sinatra. He just loved to sing.

“He was always a joy, had time for everyone, polite, grateful, and was always humble.” Harry Styles’ mum, Anne Twist, shared a photo of a broken heart emoji on her Instagram with the caption: “Just a boy…”
