Officer Anai Figueroa will be honored by the Duncanville Police Department on Tuesday night for her heroic actions.

DUNCANVILLE, Texas — A Dallas-area police officer will be honored Tuesday night after officials say her quick actions saved the life of a newborn who wasn’t breathing last month.

Officer Anai Figueroa, of the Duncanville Police Department, arrived to a gas station along North Clark Road with other first responders around 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 6 after it was reported a woman had given birth there.

Officials said the newborn “appeared completely limp.”

Figueroa jumped into action, officials said, saving the newborn after the baby “expelled fluid from the mouth.” Body camera footage of the incident released on YouTube by the city showed Figueroa running to help the woman, performing lifesaving measures and reassuring her until audible cries from the newborn are heard.

The newborn and and its mother were then taken to a hospital to be treated further.

Figueroa will receive the Life-Saving Award from Duncanville police officials at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, which starts at 7 p.m.

“Officer Figueroa’s rapid thinking and decisive actions exemplify her dedication and commitment to public safety,” the Duncanville Police Department said in a release, adding that she “joins a brave group of officers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to protect and serve the community.”

Duncanville PD said officer Figueroa has been with the department for four years.
